Free to sign up to test out and review a company's products and you get to keep the products afterwards...? Yes, please!!!
I found a site called VocalPoint off of someone else's blog that talked about just that. I signed up 5 years ago and never got a call. I thought, meh, these companies don't really work...until I got an email a few weeks ago saying I was chosen to try out some high-end hair tools! 5 year wait ain't too bad....
After meeting the criteria, VocalPoint had Instyler send out two hair tools to be reviewed. I was asked to invite 5 friends over to demo the product and give an honest opinion. I said, Sure, why not?
And I got to keep the tools as a thank you for the time, effort and honest reviews.
Instyler sent me through RSVPVocalpoint two, high-end hair tools. At first, I've never heard of this brand or its tools. I did a bit of read-up before getting the tools.Apparently, these aren't your grandma's curling irons. They are acclaimed for their rotating-iron technology that allows one to straighten every strand of hair instead of the smashing-while-you-flatten-your-hair ceramic flat irons.
The two tools were the MAX 2-Way styler and the Tulip Auto curl . They were put to the test on my three friends who each have unique hair.
As promised, I have the pictures of the results, as well as some critique.
This is my beautiful, preggo friend, Jamie. Her hair is medium-thick.
We decided to add body by using the Tulip. The Tulip has a heat setting, a timer setting, and a rotation setting.
For medium thick, we found H for High works best. For looser curls, use a lower setting.
We wanted tight curls for her medium thick hair so she could wear the style for more than a day. We used the 12 sec setting.
For the rotation setting, there is Left Rotation, Right Rotation, and Alternate Rotation. My friend Jamie mentioned that most people recommend alternating curling patterns because it's "smokin' hot that way." So we chose Alternating Rotation.
This Auto curler is neat. You measure 1/4 to 1/2" of hair with a cool hair tool. Then you place the strand in the Tulip, holding it like a tulip near the root of the hair strand. Then you push a button and the barrel inside the Tulip twists the strand of hair. You hold it there until the timer does a double beep and you pull the wand downward. Voila! Perfect curls.
The only cons we had were: the learning curve took a bit, but we surmised that the more you do something like this, the faster it will be. The other con: make sure there are absolutely no kinks in your hair and that you don't get too big of a strand. It will snag a little bit in the Tulip, at which point you'd want to carefully pull the hair out.
This is my other beautiful friend, Jennifer. Her hair is a little thicker than fine. We decided to add body to her hair with the Tulip.
We wanted tighter curls so she could wear the style for more than one day. We used Medium setting, 12-sec timer setting and Alternate Rotation setting. This yielded great, tight curls.
Lastly, my third beautiful friend, Mandy became our test model for the Max 2-Way Rotating styler. Mandy has coarse, but beautiful, curly dark hair. She normally uses a round brush and a hairdryer to straighten and flip out. We used the high setting on the styler, which is set to high once you turn it on. To change the temperature, we would just press the on/off switch until you see the right "level" of heat on the heat icon (looks like a Wi-Fi hotspot. Would be cool if it straightened AND got you Wi-Fi.). Then we selected which rotation we wanted. On the Left side, we wanted it to flip out, so we made sure it was rotating right. If it wasn't, we simply clamp the barrel to the brush open and shut twice. Pretty neat. Also, barrel side should be facing up. To curl under, simply do barrel side down.
We started at the root of the hair, making sure we have tension on the barrel as we moved SLOWLY downward, then slowly flicking the wrist out to do the flip out. To curl under, move downward with tension on the barrel and curl under.
And here she is! She couldn't believe how easy and fast it was. She was a pro by the end of the night.
We give these tools a 5/5 stars. It worked really well with each of my friends' unique hair composition.
Thank you to Instyler and Vocalpoint for letting us review these tools and have fun doing so.
A special thank you to Mandy for her Arbonne Makeup artistry to really make us shine!
